Can you explain your technique for cutting walls into celings where the ceiling is less than 90 degrees to the wall. I have done some homes like this recently and there is usually not a good sharp edge between the wall and ceiling. |

awesome question doug
possibly because of bad drywall finishing , poor workmanship or other... If you need a line to follow, try using one of those stick-on-the-wall lazer lines found at all hardware stores. Maybe take a sander and force an edge into the drywall.
This is number one: Make sure your surface is primed well and then sanded smooth so your brush flows easy.
Oh... Eat protein on days you have tough cutting so you are calm lol! (Not joking) I've seen guys drink a wack of coffee, drag on smokes or puff on big doobies and then attempt fine line painting.
I always eat a good portion of meat the day before and on days I'm doing major brush work.
Thin the paint a lot and make the line best you can. The next coat you cut in (dried well), should flow right along your first cut but even smoother and straighter now. I usually cut those 3 time.
Let me know how you make out.

Chris,
Thanks for the reply. My doobie puffing days are long gone and I don't smoke. I still do like my coffee though. I am new to painting professionally and information that I have received from your site has been very helpful. Knowing that a seasoned pro like you goes over a line more than once to get it right gives me more confidence in what I am doing. In one house I did I went over the line more than once and you are right that the second coat does flow better and is easier to control the edge on. I'll let you know how the next project like this turns out. |
