Painting Textured Ceilings |
|
Rolling... when texture has never been painted before
(if you are rolling) use an
alkyd primer to seal the texture. If you don't... expect the worst.
Texture
is a water base mixture. Applying latex (water base paint) before any
texture
is sealed with an oil primer can soften the texture to a point where it
can actually start dropping to the floor.
Un primed texture sucks up finish coats like a sponge and never levels
evenly. You usually see the ceiling joists bleed through the texture
because the paint soaks into the drywall. Even after ten coats! Priming
is meant to seal the surface so the finish coat covers the surface.
When standing in certain lights and looking up at ceilings that haven't
been primed properly, the ceiling can often look pretty streaky. Use
alkyd primer to save time and money in the long run. Once you know the
difference, you will never question primer or a contrator that insists
on including this in his quote.
You can spray un painted ceilings with latex. This works excellent
if done correctly. When
ceilings are painted pro your home looks solid and lush. Good painting
increases the value of every home. Lighting look so much better when
ceilings
are deep and clean looking. Walls come together much better when
ceilings
are clean to the edge.
This is a three colour ceiling hand painted lines.
If all possible I don't use tape. Tape tends to bleed and can give a
fast and cheap appearance.
