How high to hang pictures or art work?

DecoratorsHang Art At Eye Level.

From what I've read... the most common mistake people make is hanging their pictures too high. Hang your artwork so the centre of the picture is at eye level. But of course, "eye level" means different things to different people.

If you are looking for some helpful tips on how high to hang art... 60" to 67" standard represents the average human eye-height and is regularly used as a standard in many galleries and museums.
In a home enviornment I would not adhere too strictly to any rule. It is really all a question of proportion and relationship. Or, just choose the height that you think looks best and then hang it 3 inches lower.
Choose - 56" to 60" on center. "On center" means that the middle of the picture is at the standard you choose.

Relate Art to Furniture Size
In general, when hanging art over a piece of furniture it should not be longer than the width of the furniture.

Relate Art to Wall Size
Choose smaller pictures for narrow walls and larger pictures for big wall spaces.

 Choosing Colours

DecoratorsEvery once in a while I come across things that are worth posting.

Here is an excerpt from

The Meaning of Color for Gender by Natalia Khouw

Rikard Kuller (1976) conducted a study on the effects of color in two opposite environments. Six men and six women were asked to stay in two rooms, one room was colorful and complex; while the other was gray and sterile. Electroencephalogram (EEG) and pulse rates were recorded throughout the period, as well as the individuals' subjective emotional feelings. The results showed heart rates were faster in the gray room than in the colorful room. Moreover, men were found to have stress reactions more than women. Men also became more bored than did the women in the gray room. Kuller also postulated that men could not achieve the same degree of mental relaxation as women.
